The Roman Forum is a rectangular forum (plaza) at the center of Rome. It is surrounded by ruins of many important ancient government buildings. The most popular among them are the Arch of Titus and the Temple of Saturn.

The Forum is located in a marshy area that was drained by the Cloaca Maxima - one of the earliest sewage systems in the world.

West entrance Triumphal Gate was used only on special occasions when crowds gathered to meet the victorious generals during military processions called Triumphs.

For centuries the Roman Forum used to be center of public life in the Roman Empire. It used to host public speakings, elections, triumphal processions and many more. Caesar's funeral took place here and Mark Antony held a famous speech. His speach inspired Shakespeare to write a play called The Tragedy of Julius Caesar.
