Casa Rosada, Buenos Aires, Argentina

Casa Rosada is situated in the eastern part of the square Plaza de Mayo. In 1580 it was functioning as a fort. Nowadays Casa Rosada houses the goverment office in Buenos Aires. Long time ago Eva Peron used to speak to the crowds from the balcony of the Casa Rosada.

The color of La Rosada was picked by President Sarmiento. He tried to ease tensions between Federalistsss red and Unitarists in white. Pink was chosen as a compromise - combination of the two.

Today La Rosada is the executive mansion and office of the President of Argentina. Deep down below it there are ruins which are available to tourists and can be seen by attending the Museo del Bicentenario.
